Copy a menu to another avatar version

このコンテンツはまだ日本語訳がありません。

You have two versions of one avatar in your scene, for example the version you uploaded last month and a new release of the base avatar, or a PC and a Quest copy. One of them already has its AvatarDoc menu. Copy that menu to the other version in one step instead of making every toggle again.

AvatarDoc finds every object the menu uses at the same place on the other version: a toggle that shows Body/Hat on one version shows Body/Hat on the other. Materials, clips, icons and other assets stay as they are.

To make one version for PC and one for Quest from the same avatar, see also Different setups for PC and Quest.

  • Both versions are in the open scenes, each with its own VRChat Avatar Descriptor.
  • The version you copy from has its AvatarDoc component set up.
  • The objects keep their names and places from one version to the other, as they do in a newer release of the same base or in a copy of the avatar.
  1. In the Hierarchy, select the object with the AvatarDoc component on the version that has the menu.

  2. Open the window. Press the three dots at the right end of the AvatarDoc component's header, or right-click the header, and choose Copy to another avatar.... Or open Component settings in the inspector and press To another avatar... in the Copy row (Advanced mode; in Simple mode the fold shows only once one of its settings is changed).

You should now see the Copy to another avatar window.

  3. In To avatar, pick the version to copy to. The list holds every other avatar of the open scenes.

  4. Check Goes on. The copy goes on the object at the same place as the component you copy, such as MenuAddon, or on the avatar's root when the other version has no object there.

  5. When that object already has an AvatarDoc component, choose Replace it to overwrite it, or Add another to keep it and add the copy beside it.

  6. Under Objects it uses, look at every row: an object the window did not find on the other version, or one you marked Pick by hand when copying. For each one, pick the object to use in Use instead. When the field already holds an object, a line says it is a suggestion: the object at the same place, or the only object of that name. Check it.

A row that says Pick one before copying needs an object: Copy waits for it. You may leave any other row empty and fill the entry's row in later.

  7. Under Checks, read which blend shapes, material slots and properties the other version lacks. You fix these after copying, in the entries the line names.

  8. Press Copy.

You should now see Added the copy to "Avatar (4)". Undo takes it back. under the button, with the name of the other version, or Replaced the component on "Avatar (4)" with the copy. Undo takes it back. when you replaced one.

The copy undoes in one step. The component you copied from stays as it is, and the window never changes what is selected in the Hierarchy. A second press of Copy overwrites the copy it just made instead of adding another one, even when the copy is locked because the component you copied from is.

Some menus point at an object you want to choose yourself on every version, for example one that a world drop holds in place, which may sit somewhere else on the new version. Before you copy, mark it on the version you copy from: select the entry, right-click the row that names the object and choose Pick by hand when copying (Advanced mode).

The window then always lists that object for you to pick, even when the other version has an object at the same place; that object is only its suggestion. The copy never points back at the version you copy from. The copy marks the object you picked, so the next copy asks again. Component settings lists every marked object under Pick by hand.

  • Select the AvatarDoc component on the other version. Its inspector shows the copied entries, and the ready line says what still needs you.
  • Open each entry that the window named under Objects it uses or Checks, and fix its rows.
  • In Play mode with Gesture Manager, press the controls in the menu, as in Your first toggle.
  • The window lists objects it did not find, or Copy stays greyed out: see Some objects were not found when copying a menu.
  • Copy to another avatar... is greyed out: the component is not part of an avatar in the scene. Move it under the object that holds the VRChat Avatar Descriptor.
