Link effects to another toggle or a parameter

このコンテンツはまだ日本語訳がありません。

Use a trigger when something should follow a state the avatar already has: hide the hair strands while the Hat toggle is on, blush while the right hand shows a thumbs up, or change the face only while sitting. A trigger has no button in the menu and costs no synced bits.

For a touch, see React to touch. For a PhysBone, see React to PhysBone grabs, poses and stretches. For a shape that moves smoothly, see Drive effects from a blend shape.

This needs Advanced mode, the default.

  1. In the Hierarchy, select the object that holds your AvatarDoc component.

  2. In the inspector's toolbar, press + Trigger. On a narrow inspector, it sits under + More.

You should now see a trigger named New Trigger, selected under Triggers in the tree.

  3. In the trigger's panel, type a name into Name, such as Hat hair, and press Enter.

You should now see When set to Another toggle, the start of every new trigger.

  4. In Toggle, pick the toggle to follow, such as Hat.

The list shows every toggle of every AvatarDoc component on the avatar. A toggle of another component shows that component's object name in brackets.

  5. In the list under it, choose is on or is off.

You should now see the Fires line spell out the rule, such as When "Hat" is on.

  6. Add the effects: drag objects onto Objects, or press + Add effect for blend shapes, materials and properties. For the hair strands, set their rows to Hidden.

A parameter is a value the avatar keeps, such as the gesture of each hand. VRChat sets many of them, and other tools add their own.

  1. In the trigger's panel, set When to A parameter.

  2. Press the arrow button at the right end of Parameter.

You should now see a list of parameters, grouped by where they come from, with a search field.

  3. Type part of the name, such as Gesture, and pick the parameter, such as GestureRight.

A trigger with 1 When set to A parameter and 2 the Parameter field, and the parameter list open with Gesture typed in its search field.12

In the picture, 1 is When and 2 the Parameter field. The list under the arrow button shows the parameters that match the search, each with its type.

  4. In Condition, choose the test. For a parameter that is on or off, pick Is on or Is off. For a number, pick Equals, Is not, Is above or Is below, and type the number into Value.

For example, GestureRight Equals 7 is true while the right hand shows a thumbs up.

  5. Add the effects, as in the first part.

The list groups the parameters under Avatar (the avatar's own and its components'), AvatarDoc, VRChat (VRChat's own, such as GestureLeft or Seated) and VRCFury when the avatar has VRCFury toggles with a global parameter. You can also type a name into Parameter yourself.

  1. Under the Fires line, press + And to add a condition that must also be true.

You should now see a group: a box that holds the first condition and a new row. The new row starts as a Toggle condition. Change its kind in the list at the top of the row.

  2. To add a second way the trigger can fire, press + Or.

You should now see a second group, with Any of these between the groups.

Inside a group, every condition must be true (All of). The trigger fires while any group is fully true. The Fires line always says the whole rule in words. A trigger may have at most 4 groups and 4 conditions in a group, and the group sizes multiplied together may not pass 64, which is the number of ways it must be able to turn off again. Four groups of 2 conditions build; four groups of 3 are refused. A float compared with one exact value counts twice, and a menu switch adds to the count. + And switches off once a group holds 4. Limits has the table.

To make the trigger work only while a menu switch is on, open the panel's Advanced fold. In Only while, pick a toggle and is on or is off, or press Add a menu switch to make a new toggle for it.

  • In the trigger's panel, press On in the Scene preview row. The Scene view shows the effects. Press Default to stop the preview.
  • In Play mode with Gesture Manager, turn the followed toggle on, or make the gesture, and watch the effects come on. See Your first toggle for Play mode.
  • A warning says the trigger refers to a toggle, parameter or blend shape that no longer exists: pick a new one under When. See the message.
  • A warning says nothing on the avatar declares the parameter: check the spelling, or pick the name from the list. See the message.
  • The effect fights with a toggle that changes the same thing: the one AvatarDoc builds later wins, and triggers come after every menu control. Give the trigger and the toggle different things to change. See the message.
