Organise the menu

このコンテンツはまだ日本語訳がありません。

Use this page once your menu has more than a few entries, or when you want it to look tidy in VRChat: submenus, coloured names and icons.

To change menu items that the avatar already had, or that other tools added, see the guide about changing the avatar's existing menu.

Styling names, Component settings, Capture icons and Wheel need Advanced mode, the default. In Simple mode, the style row shows only for a name that already has a style, and Component settings only once one of its settings is changed.

  1. In the Hierarchy, select the object that holds your AvatarDoc component.

  2. In the inspector's toolbar, press + Submenu. On a narrow inspector, it sits under + More.

You should now see a submenu named New Submenu, selected in the tree.

  3. In the submenu's panel, type a name into Name, such as Outfits, and press Enter.

  4. In the tree, right click an entry that belongs in the submenu, then select Move to and the submenu's name.

You should now see the entry inside the submenu. Do the same for each entry, or drag rows in the tree into the submenu.

Right click an empty place in the tree to get Capture missing icons, which draws an icon for every entry that has none. While you drag a row, a line under the tree says where it will land, such as To the root menu when the drop goes to the top of the menu.

A new entry lands inside the submenu that is selected in the tree, or beside the entry that is selected. To move an entry back to the top of the menu, use Move to and Root.

VRChat shows eight controls on one page of a submenu. A submenu's panel says how many of its eight places are used. When a submenu holds more, AvatarDoc moves the extra controls to a More page, and the tree shows that page.

  1. In the tree, select the entry.

  2. In its panel, on the Style row under the name, press the colour swatch and pick a colour. Press B for bold text and I for italic text.

You should now see an In game line that shows the name the way VRChat draws it. The tree draws the styled name too.

An Outfits submenu with a styled name: 1 the Name field, 2 the colour swatch of the Style row, 3 the In game line and 4 Capture icon.1234

In the picture, 1 is Name, 2 the colour swatch of the Style row, 3 the In game line and 4 Capture icon.

The x beside the swatch takes the colour away. To style only part of a name, turn on Rich text tags and write the tags yourself, such as <color=#ff8080>Summer</color> outfits.

The style only changes how the name looks. The parameter and the layer AvatarDoc makes use the name without the tags.

  1. In the entry's panel, press Capture icon at the right end of Icon.

You should now see the Capture icon window. Its preview shows the entry's own pieces, framed by the Scene view camera.

  2. Press Fit to point the camera at the pieces. You can also move the Scene view until the preview looks right.

  3. Press Save icon.

You should now see the new picture in the entry's Icon field.

AvatarDoc saves the picture in Assets/AvatarDoc Icons, in a folder named after the avatar. Background chooses Transparent or Solid colour. You can also drag any texture from the Project window onto Icon.

The Capture icons button on the toolbar captures an icon for every toggle, radial, submenu or preset of this component that has something to show and no icon yet. On a narrow inspector it shows as a camera.

By default, AvatarDoc puts its entries at the top of the avatar's menu, next to what the avatar already has.

  1. In the inspector's header, open Component settings.

  2. Press the arrow button at the right end of Install into and pick a submenu of the avatar's menu, or Avatar root menu.

  3. In Install as, pick As submenu to wrap all of this component's entries in one new submenu there. Give it a name in Submenu name.

With Append items, the entries sit right in the chosen place. With As submenu, the new submenu is named after the object that holds the component until you type a name.

  • Press Wheel on the toolbar. The wheel shows the selected submenu the way VRChat's own menu draws it, with names and icons. On a narrow inspector the button shows as an icon.
  • In Play mode with Gesture Manager, open Expressions and look through the submenus, as in Your first toggle.
  • Move to does not list the submenu: the submenu is on another AvatarDoc component. Move the entry from that component, or make the submenu on this one.
  • The Style row is missing: the inspector is in Simple mode. Switch to Advanced at the top of the inspector.
  • Capture icon shows an empty picture: the entry has no pieces to show. The window says so. Add an object, blend shape or material first.
